Saltworks Tour

  • For those interested in our unique clean energy salt harvesting process, the only one of its kind in the world.
  • Enjoy an immersive tour of the saltworks, learning how we harness naturally occurring solar and thermal energy to harvest our pure sea salt flakes.
  • Afterwards sample our range of uniquely Tasmanian sea salts and salt mixes
  • Have the opportunity to purchase our full range of sea salts directly from the source.

Wild winter at The Salt Cellar

  • Warm up with steaming mulled cider as you breathe in the crisp ocean air and watch brine transform into delicate sea salt flakes.
  • Then head back to The Salt Cellar to taste pure sea salt harvested from the pristine waters of Tasmania's east coast.
  • Feel how salt sharpens and reveals flavour while enjoying the sweeping Freycinet Peninsula views.
  • Available Fridays at 2pm in winter.

The Salt Sommelier

  • Enjoy an immersive tour of the saltworks, learning how we use naturally occurring energy to harvest our pure sea salt flakes, through a production process that is the only one of its kind in the world.
  • Afterwards, we’ll move to the Mayfield Cellar Door for a dive into the world of sea salt. Find out about the importance of sea salt, both for our bodies and as a seasoning, how it impacts flavour and the way we taste food, and why this humble mineral has been responsible for the rise and fall of empires.
  • Enjoy this unique experience while sampling a selection of small bites pairing our sea salts with locally sourced produce.

  • The saltworks is located at 97 Mayfield Jetty Road, Little Swanport, TAS 7190.
  • Children under 10 years of age are welcome to join free of charge without the need to book but please advise numbers in the comments section.
  • If you would like your child to partake in the Salt Sommelier tasting please purchase a child ticket for them.
  • If you require a vegetarian, pescatarian or gluten free pairing menu please select this option when booking. For other individual dietary requirements please contact us directly and we will do our best to accommodate them.
  • The Mayfield Estate wine add-ons are strictly for guests aged 18 years or over.
  • For cancellations and refunds please see Returns & Refunds
  • Saltworks tour duration: 45 minutes
  • The tour is a guided outdoor and indoor walking tour
  • There will be some uneven ground, gravel, and potentially weather exposure
  • Seating is available on request
  • There is an accessible toilet in the main shed

  • We offer Matched Mayfield Estate Wines with the Salt Sommelier experience, which can be added at the time of booking or on the day.
  • Bookings are essential and close 12 hours before the start of the tour.
  • We are a working sea salt harvesting facility, please wear closed toe shoes.
